Alright, I was meaning to post this a long time ago … Yeah. Some of you have already read it or heard me read it at Open Mic. You can ignore this entry if you like. Even though it seems like it’s out of nowhere, it really isn’t. I mean, Intonation all weekend? I think it’s quite appropriate. Me and Joe were literally on the Hipster Express to and from that festival.

A girl in a white tutu and pink fishnets walks the halls of Northside. I don’t know who she is but I assume she’s the coolest chick around. Thick-rimmed glasses shield brown eyes, thin boy, tight grey jeans. I don’t know who he is but I know he must be the coolest cat around. Thick-rimmed glasses everywhere … in front, behind, left, and right … of that white tutu, reinforced with faux pearls dangling over thrift store bought granny sweaters in a multitude of colours. Northside kids are just the coolest. Popular these kids with the thick-rimmed glasses, the masses just adore. Northside kids are just the coolest. Fascinating these kids who seem completely original … … So original! So cool! So hip!
It’s just the daily encounters going to the “best” school in town. You know, besides the incomparable academics and magnificent architecture. It’s just my new obsession these hipster kids. Don’t give me jocks with lacrosse sticks and cheerleaders with their pompons. Just give me a hipster kid in thrift store bought clothing and those oh so desirable thick-rimmed glasses and I would be completely fulfilled.
They’re one of the only cliques that extend to all four years, you know. Meaning, yes! There are hipster freshmen! There are hipster sophomores and of course there are hipster junior and seniors!
Is hipster the right word? What are hipsters about anyways? Borderline emo apparently. Explains the glasses … so dorky, it’s nerdy! So nerdy, it’s cool. So cool, it’s hip! Oh my, they’re just so cool with their god Conor Oberst and their heavenly choir Le Tigre. I just can’t get over how cool they are! They give rainbows and unicorns that light up the day. Quote Napoleon Dynamite, rock the Chucks … Who gets excited when the Spice Girls are on 11 on the intercoms? They sure do! Aren’t they just a blast?!
I didn’t have that basic aqua blue Le Tigre tee. A glare … y’know, from their ultra shiny faux pearls. Oh man! I want to be their friends! But darn, there they go past again. They went on in their hipster paradise about being xcore and gangster. What are hipsters about anyways?
Commented on one of their blogs later that day. Yes, blogs. Hipster kid blinded by their thick-rimmed glasses, emovision … nay hipstervision.
“Non-hipster commenter?” hipster kid rolls his eyes. “I’m just too awesome to care. Poseurs, ALL of them, who aren’t exactly like me. Poseurs, ALL of them, who don’t have my sweet tight jeans and thick-rimmed glasses.”
They continue their weekly routine of plastering pictures.
“Hm! Lemme pose with the aviator glasses this time. Gotta pucker up the lips like a porn star … as usual. I’m so fuckin’ hawt!”
Jeez, how fabulous is that?
Still didn’t get that coveted Le Tigre tee. What are hipsters about anyways?
I’m such a poseur. SUCH a poseur. So not worthy for those hipster kids.
